After a great night in Manhattan, KS a very nice family agreed to let the whole band stay with them in their wonderful house a few miles outside of Manhattan. Apparently this is the home of THE official Wizard of Oz museum, and they have all sorts of cultural events connected to wizard of oz, such as Oztoberfest. It’s a very nice small town. Today is our day off. After driving 7ish hours here to make it in time to play that night, we were all pretty beat.
On the way here, I dropped a huge box of cookies, and they all fell onto concrete, and people were really angry. I think the rest of the band has (maybe) forgiven me, but I guess when they stop caning me while I’m asleep, I’ll start to believe them. I think lunch is planned with Moving Rushmore. They came out and saw us last night. I can’t get over how nice they all are. I think that might just be the Kansas way.
The family that we are staying with are super hospitable as well. They were telling us about the two Austrailians making a documentary about surfing in the USA (all 50 states) and they weren’t really sure how they were going to be recieved, but they too were overcome by Kansas hospitality. I am really attracted to that, to be honest. I don’t know if I could live in a really small town away from a lot of what I know and grew up with, because I consider myself a city boy, but I just love the sense of community and hospitality here.
